For those of you that know me, I love my sleep! I don’t function well without naps and at least 10 hours of sleep at night! I’m pretty sure I suffer from chronic fatigue, but I’m too tired to go see a doctor about it ;)
Anyways, enough about my sleep addiction.
I recently found out about FOXtail Hammocks and can’t believe I’ve never thought to add something like this to my bug out bag before!
There’s nothing better in my opinion than some good sleep (away from spiders and snakes), and one of the best ways you can do that in the wild is with a hammock!
Features of FOXtail Hammocks:
Foxtail Hammocks are designed for comfort, style and portability. Whether you’re a survivalist, extreme outdoorsmen or tactical enthusiasts, Foxtail Hammocks bridge a gap between chillin’ out and traveling light. Made from 100% parachute nylon, Foxtail Hammocks create zero pressure points which allows for better rest and less back and joint pain. You can now wake up and feel more rested after a day on the trail or relax after burning some powder on the range. – FOXtail Hammocks
Below is an excellent review from Everyday Tactical Vids, that goes into detail about how to set one up, benefits of using these hammocks, precautions to take, etc.
Some of the benefits he mentions are – very light weight, reasonable cost (about $45), easy to set-up, comfortable, and constructed well.
He did mention it’s great for the warmer months, but when it’s colder outside you’ll want a tarp or something to help keep your buns from freezing off (at least something along those lines).
Enter to Win One of the FOXtail Hammocks!!!
The best part is FOXtail Hammocks is giving away one of their hammocks just for my readers – No one else!
Just promise me if you win you’ll take an extra nap for me ;)
The boring details…

I work an hour away from home so should something occur (I’m mainly concerned about an EMP disabling my vehicle), it will take me 2-3 days to get home. My Get Home Bag (GHB) is packed for exactly that and although I have a survival sleeping bag and emergency blanket to use for shelters and sleeping, I could use more. I’m not a big sleeping on the ground kind of girl and critters dangling from the trees above creep me out so a hammock that’s like a cocoon is exactly for me.
John R says

It would make it easier, I would not need help getting up off the ground. That would mean that I could go camping alone if desired. I would love one of these. Eventually I would get one for each family member.

We like to use Tyvek house wrap as an insulator. Works great in a hammock or tent. Will insulate you from moisture too. Buy a big roll and just cut off some as you need it. Here in Central Texas we only have Winter from January to February. One week of Spring and one week of Fall. The rest of the year is HOT!

I love hammocks. I used to have one in my dorm room, because the beds were awful lol.
Our BOB as a fire rod, a clear tarp, a small tackle box, compass, first aid kit, a multitool, and a few knives, and a couple thermal blankets. A hammock would be a creature comfort addition, for sure.

Waialakaniella says
Foxtail Hammocks are very excellent for other things than a bug-out bag like using them for children with autism, children with autism prefer proximal sensory . When hugged, an overwhelming tidal wave of sensation flows through the child and calms them down. Also children with Tourette’s disorder like to use this hammock and that it calms them down like a warm mothers hug insuring them positive thoughts and warmth. Don’t believe me ? Research has shown that hugging / snuggling products provide deep touch pressure sensations through the child’s trunk. Many children with autism, ADHD or other sensory integration needs respond positively to this deep touch pressure. It helps attain calming and organizing influences to the nervous system. Occupational therapists use similar products in pediatric therapy for improvement in body awareness, joint and muscle sensations for discrimination of force, pressure discriminations, body position and awareness or changes in body motion. Deep touch pressure is believed to reduce sensory sensitivities, to improve the nervous system state, and to increase potentials for endurance of task attention and persistence. But please consult your medical professional and discuss your specific needs.
