I’m an organizing fanatic! Even when I was little I had issues – I would be in a waiting room with toys and I would organize them instead of play with them. I even taped off part of my room that I shared with my sister and told her that her junk better not cross the line (yes, I should probably help pay for her therapy now).
Anyways, I feel every area of life could benefit from a little bit (or a lot) of organizing, including preps!
That’s why I jumped for joy when Epson offered to send me a Safety Label Kit to review! My mom is the label maker queen, but I had no idea they had one specific for safety and preparedness until recently!
The different types of tape in the Safety Label Kit are what really make it stand out!
Here are the tapes that are included and some ideas of things to use them for:
- Reflective Tape – Helmets, Bikes, Sporting Gear, Strollers, Running Shoes
- Glow-in-the-Dark Tape – Emergency Supplies, Exit Routes, Circuit Breakers, Shut-Off Switches
- Fluorescent Tape – Expiration Dates, Caution Alerts, Medication Containers, Emergency Contacts

Using Your Safety Label Kit:
I immediately busted mine out and started playing with it. Even though my mom was a label addict, I had never used a label maker in my life. I still did things the old school way – with a printer or a sharpie ;)
Surprisingly, it was much easier to use than I thought – because of course I didn’t bother reading the instructions first. You just literally slap some batteries and tape in the back of it and it’s ready to go.
The only thing I did learn, is DON’T pull on the tape to get more out – trust me!
Below are my very first labels made with the Safety Label Kit – big moment ;)
I loved how you could add pictures to it, change the font, use different types and sizes of tape, and really do anything your imagination could come up with to create the perfect label.
Label Your Preps!
I immediately started thinking up things to label. The only problem is, once you start you can’t stop!
First Aid Kits
You may know it’s a first aid kit, but what about everyone else in your home, or even the babysitter?
Plus, when blood is oozing everywhere, you don’t want to waste valuable time giving explicit instructions on the exact location of your first aid kit – so just label it!
Also, I stole this idea from my mom, but I think it’s brilliant – label everything that is in your first aid kit on the side of it. That way you know which kit to grab if you have multiple ones. It also helps you to know what needs replaced or might be missing.
Shed & Tools
Kuddos to you men that know how to organize your tools! I rarely walk by a garage that doesn’t look like a disaster zone, but when I do I stop to gawk – It’s super impressive!
I just love when everything has a home, and with a label it makes it even easier to remember where everything goes. Labels are especially important when you have items that are different sizes, because if you put something in the wrong area, the other items won’t fit.
The glow-in-the-dark-tape worked really well too!
Food
Labels have been especially helpful for my pantry shelves, buckets, and even my large food rotation system so I know exactly where certain foods go and how much of each item.
It makes for a quick inventory to see what I’m missing & how much I need to fill everything back up to have a years worth of food.
Fluorescent tape is also a good reminder when you need to replace anything in your pantry :)
Label Everything…
I guess you don’t have to label everything, but if you have a label maker – why not ;)
Gifts
Makes labeling presents a breeze, especially around Christmas!
Toys & Pets
Yeah, he’s a tiger, but they named him Cheetah!
Danger ;)
He may look sweet – but danger is his middle name (or at least it should be)!
